Official Rules

You are invited to enter the Santa Margherita Great Taste Challenge Contest (“Contest”) by submitting a recipe entry that you think is likely to pair well with a Santa Margherita varietal. There is one entry component to this contest: the “National” challenge. Finalists will be invited to participate in the Great Taste Challenge competition in Chicago where judges will determine the Grand Prize winner. The contest is void in Alaska, Hawaii and where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Employees, directors and officers of Santa Margherita wines, Terlato Wines International, their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and the immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible. Any person who has served as a culinary professional, food writer and critic, cooking teacher, any member of any culinary professional trade association in the last 5 years is not eligible. The definition of who is a culinary professional is at sole discretion of sponsor.

  1. ELIGIBILITY:
    • NATIONAL CHALLENGE: The National Challenge is open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States and Washington, D.C., who are 21 years of age or older as of date of entry.
  2. HOW TO ENTER:
    • NATIONAL CHALLENGE: To enter the National Challenge, beginning 12:01 AM (ET) on 3/1/10 through 11:59 PM (ET) on 5/31/10 (the “Entry Period”), visit www.SantaMargherita.US for an Official Entry Form and an Official Recipe Form. Follow the on-screen directions to complete and submit.

      Contest submission must feature a dish that you think is likely to pair well with a Santa Margherita wine, based on descriptions of them at www.SantaMargherita.US. Submitted recipes may include a maximum of 20 ingredients (salt and pepper do not need be counted as ingredients). Ingredients must be readily available and the time required to prepare and plate the submitted recipe must not exceed 45 minutes. Recipes cannot include any product(s) which are competitive to Santa Margherita products, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Entry must include the name of your recipe, the ingredients with exact standard U.S. measurements/weights and preparation instructions. Along with complete preparation instructions, entry must provide timing and approximate number of servings. More than one entry will be accepted per person, but each entry must contain a unique recipe and must be submitted separately. All entries become the sole and exclusive property of Sponsor and none will be returned.

      NATIONAL CHALLENGE: When entering the National Challenge, your online submission must include an Official Entry Form, an Official Recipe Form and you will be required to upload a video featuring the dish made from your submitted recipe. Video must contain the entrant only; no other persons may be depicted in the video, in whole or in part. Professional or studio videos are not eligible. Video submissions must not exceed 3 minutes in length. IMPORTANT: At the beginning of the video, record your first name, your city/state, and the name of your recipe. In addition, record the “inspiration” for your submitted recipe and why it pairs well with one of the Santa Margherita wines. Video may be submitted in the following formats: 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, 3gpp2, amr-nb, asf, avi, dv, flv, m4a, MOD, mov, movieclip, mp3, mp4, mpeg, mpg, gcelp, gt, wav, wma or wmv. Video files should not exceed 300MB. Entry information recorded at the beginning of the video will not count as part of the 3 minute maximum. Video may be in color or black & white. If any music, lyrics, sounds, props, or other creative element are used in the video, they must be entrant’s own original creative work.

      NATIONAL CHALLENGE ONLINE VOTING AND JUDGING: At the conclusion of the Entry Period, entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges and scored according to the following criteria: how well the recipe is likely to pair with a Santa Margherita varietal — 40 points, perceived taste based on recipe — 30 points, appearance of dish appearing in video — 30 points. Entries exceeding 70 points will be included in the “Online Voting” period.

      From 12:01 AM (ET) on 6/15/10 through 11:59 PM (ET) on 7/15/10 (the “Online Voting Period”), all eligible entries will be posted on www.SantaMargherita.US for the public to review and vote for their favorite recipe submissions. Website visitors are limited to three votes per email address per day. If more than three votes are received per person per day from a website visitor or his/her computer, only the first three such votes received will be deemed valid. Votes generated by script, macro or other automated means or with the intent to impair the integrity of the voting process, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, will be void. At the conclusion of the Online Voting Period, the three entries with the most eligible votes will proceed to the Finalist Event.
  3. GREAT TASTE FINALIST EVENT: The Great Taste Challenge Finalist event will be held at Chicago Gourmet in Chicago, Illinois on 9/25/10. At the Finalist event, each Finalist will be required to prepare the recipe he/she originally submitted to the Challenge. The recipe must be prepared and plated in 45 or fewer minutes. Judging to determine the Grand Prize winner will be accomplished by representatives of sponsor supervised by Fabio Viviani, Bill Terlato and other wine and food experts. Judging and tie breaking will be based on the criteria set forth in Rule #2B. The highest scoring Finalist will be deemed the Grand Prize winner. Sponsor will supply ingredients and cooking equipment to be used at the event. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute comparable ingredients, equipment and judges at its sole discretion. Finalists must agree to travel on dates specified by Sponsor; event dates and times will be determined by Sponsor, and are subject to change.
  4. PRIZES & APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES: PRIZES & APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES: One Grand Prize (1) — A 3-day/2 night trip for winner and a guest to Los Angeles. Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest winner’s home, hotel accommodations (1 room/double-occupancy), cooking lessons for winner with Fabio Viviani and Santa Margherita wine classes for winner with Jacapo Fellini at Café Firenze, ground transportation between destination airport, hotel and event and a per diem for meals (ARV: $3,250) Grand Prize trip must be booked and confirmed a minimum of one month prior to travel. Once Grand Prize trip is booked it cannot be rescheduled. Grand Prize travel must be completed within one year of notification. Travel is subject to availability and certain blackout dates may apply. A maximum of three (3) Finalist Prizes — A 2-day/1-night trip for two to Chicago to compete in the Great Taste Challenge Finalist event in September 2009. Finalist Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest Finalist’s home, hotel accommodations (1 room, double-occupancy), three meals daily (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and ground transportation between destination airport, hotel and event (ARV: $2,000 per Finalist prize). Actual trip values may vary depending on point of departure and airfare fluctuations. Winners who live within a 200-mile radius of destination city will receive $500 in lieu of air transportation. Prizes consist of only the items specifically listed as part of the prize.

    All travel companions must be 21 years of age or older and travel on same itinerary as winner. Travel must be roundtrip. Sponsor will determine dates of travel, flight itinerary and hotel accommodations in its sole discretion. No refund or compensation will be made in the event of the cancellation or delay of any flight. Travel is subject to the terms and conditions set forth in this Contest, and those set forth by the Sponsor’s airline carrier of choice as detailed in the passenger ticket contract. All expenses and incidental travel costs not expressly stated in the package description above, including but not limited to, meals, incidentals, travel insurance, airline fees, service charges or facility charges, personal charges at lodging, security fees or other expenses are the responsibility solely of winner. Travel restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply. Sponsor will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen tickets, travel vouchers or certificates.
  5. GENERAL RULES: IMPORTANT: In order to participate in the Great Taste Finalist Event, entrant will be required to supply a detailed list of ingredients with exact standard U.S. measurements/weights and preparation instructions to the Sponsor a minimum of 7 days prior to said event. Prior to each event, a restaurant employee will prep the cooking ingredients. Sponsor and its agencies reserve the right to disqualify any entry that, in their sole opinion, refers, depicts or in any way reflects negatively upon the Sponsor, the promotion or any other person or entity or any entrant who fails to follow the direction of event staff. Entries must be suitable for presentation in a public forum, in sole determination of Sponsor. Participation constitutes full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s and judges’ decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to this contest. No substitution or transfer of prize by winner permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize of equal or greater value. All federal, state and local income taxes are the sole responsibility of winner. All federal, state and local laws apply. Potential Finalists must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Publicity Release, within 3 days of notification. Noncompliance within this time period or return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification without further notice and an alternate winner will be selected, time permitting. All winners and traveling companions must execute a Release of Liability prior to ticketing and must possess required travel documents (e.g., valid photo ID) prior to departure. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry which does not comply with these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right to: (a) use entrant’s name and likeness and publish all entries submitted, (b) alter, amend, edit or change entries prior to publication and (c) use, publish, reproduce, alter, amend and copyright entries for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. By accepting prize, each winner agrees to hold Sponsor, their respective directors, officers, employees and assigns, harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of the applicable prize. Entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor, its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents, attorneys, other representatives, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, harmless from and against any and all liability and damages relating to this Contest and their participation thereto. Winners assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by participation in this promotion or use or redemption of any prize. Sponsor, affiliates, subsidiaries and agencies are not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing, the offering or announcement of any prize or in the administration of the promotion. In the event there is a discrepancy between these Official Rules and any Contest materials, the Official Rules shall prevail, govern and control.

    NOTICE TO ONLINE ENTRANTS: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS PROMOTION IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Not responsible for faulty, incorrect or mistranscribed phone transmissions, incorrect announcements of any kind, technical hardware or software failures of any kind including any injury or damage to any person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in or experiencing any materials in connection with the promotion, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission that may limit a user’s ability to participate in the promotion. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify the promotion if fraud, misconduct or technical failures destroy the integrity of the program; or if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration or security of the program as determined by Sponsor/judging agency/administrator, in their sole discretion.  If technical malfunctions or suspect voting/irregularities corrupt the voting process, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to award prizes based solely on the Finalists Judging scores or non-suspect votes. Any damage made to the Web Site will be the responsibility of the authorized e-mail account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. Proof of submitting entries will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor. Any entries which are suspected of being fraudulent (including those using robotic, automatic, programmed or similar methods of participation) will be disqualified, based on determinations made solely by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to prohibit the participation/voting of an individual if fraud or tampering is suspected or if the account holder fails to comply with any requirement of participation as stated herein or with any provision in these Official Rules.
